Best Magnesium Glycinate in India (2026): Ranked by Cost per 100 mg Elemental Magnesium

Updated 2 November 2026. HealthyHey makes two of the products below. They are ranked on one number, the cost of 100 mg of elemental magnesium at each brand's own price, so you can check every figure yourself.

Key Takeaways

  • Ranked by cost per 100 mg of elemental magnesium: Tata 1mg Magnesium Glycinate is lowest at ₹2.8, then HK Vitals 100% Magnesium Glycinate at ₹5.7, HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated at ₹7.9, TrueBasics at ₹10.5 and Wellbeing Nutrition at ₹18.0. Five more products are listed separately because their labelled magnesium is more than their declared glycinate can supply, and our own 22% is unranked while we update its pack label.
  • Published test reports: HealthyHey publishes lab reports for three batches of its 14% (heavy metals and microbiology, from an NABL-accredited lab, the latest issued 23 October 2026). We did not find published reports for the HK Vitals, Tata 1mg or TrueBasics products on their brands' sites, checked 2 November 2026.
  • Compare declarations with evidence: a label ratio alone does not identify the magnesium forms. Some products explicitly declare blends; others declare glycinate alone. Check the exact current label and the scope of the tests.
  • What it is: Magnesium glycinate is magnesium chelated to the amino acid glycine, chosen for daily use mainly because it is well tolerated rather than for a dramatic absorption advantage.
  • Elemental magnesium is the number that matters: Pure magnesium bisglycinate is at most 14.1% magnesium by weight, so 2,000 mg of compound delivers no more than 282 mg of elemental magnesium.
  • Label check: a ratio above the pure anhydrous bisglycinate ceiling calls for clarification on the same weight basis; a compatible ratio is not proof of chelation.
  • Serving guidance: follow the product label and individual advice; a higher dose or a general upper limit is not a quality target.
  • Timing: Many people take magnesium glycinate with dinner or before bed, since glycine has mild relaxing properties that may support sleep quality.
  • Safety: Consult your doctor before supplementing if you have kidney problems, a heart rhythm condition, take antibiotics, diuretics or PPIs, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Why Magnesium Glycinate Is Different From Other Magnesium Forms

Magnesium supplements differ in declared form, dose, excipients and evidence. The often-cited head-to-head trial involved 12 patients with ileal resection, not a representative sample of healthy adults. It does not establish a universal absorption or tolerability ranking for these products. Original trial.

As a clinical nutritionist with over a decade working with Indian clients, I (Rishi Modi) get asked about magnesium glycinate constantly. Shortfall is common: ICMR-NIN sets the recommended daily allowance at 440 mg for adult men and 370 mg for adult women from all sources, and Indian dietary surveys consistently show a large proportion of the population falling short from food alone. Processed foods, soil depletion, stress, and poor sleep create a compounding deficit.

This guide cuts through the marketing noise. I'll walk you through what actually matters when choosing a magnesium glycinate supplement in India in 2026: elemental magnesium per serving, which magnesium sources are actually in the capsule, third-party testing, certifications, and honest value for money.

The One Number That Matters: Elemental Magnesium

Before comparing any products, you need to understand one crucial distinction that most Indian supplement labels obscure: the difference between magnesium glycinate compound weight and elemental magnesium.

When a label says "2,000 mg Magnesium Glycinate," that is the weight of the entire compound — magnesium bonded to two glycine molecules. Glycine is heavy. Pure magnesium bisglycinate is 14.1% magnesium by weight at most, and commercial grades that hold water assay lower, around 11 to 13%. So 2,000 mg of pure bisglycinate delivers roughly 230 to 280 mg of elemental magnesium, and no more than 282 mg.

Check any label yourself. Our magnesium label calculator takes the compound weight and the elemental magnesium from any supplement label and tells you whether that percentage is possible for a single ingredient or only for a blend.

Approximately 14.1% is the theoretical magnesium fraction for pure anhydrous bisglycinate. Label errors, rounding and moisture basis must be considered before interpreting a ratio. The arithmetic cannot identify oxide, hydroxide or another source, and does not prove chelation below the ceiling.

For the full arithmetic, see our detailed explainer: 22% vs 14% Magnesium Glycinate: What the Percentage Actually Means.

Always compare elemental magnesium per serving, not compound weight — and check that the elemental figure is consistent with the sources declared.

Ranked: Magnesium Glycinate in India by Cost per 100 mg Elemental Magnesium

Most "best magnesium" lists rank by the number on the front of the bottle, which is usually compound weight. Here every product is ranked on one like-for-like number: what 100 mg of elemental magnesium costs at the brand's own listed price. A product is ranked only if its labelled magnesium fits the magnesium sources it declares.

Prices, published reports and ratings checked 2 November 2026 on each brand's own site (Tata 1mg on 1mg.com); labels checked 14 October 2026 and rechecked on 2 November for Tata 1mg, HK Vitals and TrueBasics. For each product we used the single pack with the lowest cost per 100 mg, without multi-pack bundles or coupons. Prices and formulations change, so check the label before you buy.

What the ranking does and does not say

  • Lowest cost per 100 mg: Tata 1mg Magnesium Glycinate, at ₹2.8. It is buffered: magnesium hydroxide supplies part of its magnesium, as its label declares. Its 440 mg serving is above the US adult upper limit for supplemental magnesium (see the caution below).
  • Where HealthyHey sits: HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated is third at ₹7.9, with bisglycinate as the only magnesium source on its label. HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 22% is listed, not ranked, while we update its pack label (see below).
  • Blends cost less per milligram: magnesium hydroxide and oxide carry far more magnesium per gram than glycinate and cost less, so buffered products usually win on this number. That is arithmetic, not a judgement of quality or tolerability.
  • What this table ignores: absorption, tolerability and excipients. A lower cost per milligram does not make a product clinically better.
  • Published batch reports: HealthyHey publishes lab reports for three batches of its 14% on its lab report page: heavy metals for batches ACS05500 and ACS055005, and microbiology for ACS05500 and ACS0513C0, from Avon Food Lab (NABL TC-11151), the latest issued 23 October 2026. Its magnesium content was measured on the raw material, not on finished capsules. Wellbeing Nutrition links a test report from its product page. Tata 1mg and HK Vitals show "NABL lab tested" and "Third Party tested" badges, and TrueBasics' batch lookup covers its whey protein; we found no published report for these three products on their sites (checked 2 November 2026). A report covers only the batch tested.
  • Independent ratings: Unbox Health buys products on the open market and tests them in NABL-accredited labs. "Not rated" means Unbox Health has not tested that product, or its current formula. HK Vitals' live A+ is for its earlier "Magnesium Glycinate Men" label, not the current 100% formula. Unbox Health rated HealthyHey 22% in September 2026; its rating page raises a question about the magnesium source, so we don't cite that rating here. Ratings checked 2 November 2026.

Listed, not ranked: labels to clarify

These five products declare glycinate as their only magnesium source, but their labelled magnesium is about 22% of the glycinate weight. Pure magnesium bisglycinate is at most about 14.1% magnesium, so the declared ingredient alone cannot supply the stated amount. We show the label figures as published. Ask the brand which source supplies the rest before comparing cost.

Product Magnesium source declared Labelled elemental magnesium per serving Magnesium as a share of the glycinate weight Note
Nakpro Magnesium Bisglycinate Magnesium bisglycinate 440 mg from 2,000 mg (2 tablets) 22% Sold on Amazon.in; the label gives 1 tablet a day for women.
Carbamide Forte Chelated Magnesium Glycinate 2000 mg Magnesium glycinate 440 mg from 2,000 mg (2 tablets) 22%
Neuherbs True Magnesium Magnesium bisglycinate (with zinc and vitamin C) 352 mg from 1,600 mg (2 tablets) 22% One line of the page says 353 mg.
Nutrisage High Absorption Magnesium Bisglycinate Magnesium bisglycinate 170.5 mg from 775 mg (1 tablet) 22% The page and the bottle differ on tablets per day.

HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 22% is our own: its product page lists magnesium glycinate and magnesium hydroxide, and we are updating the pack label to match, so we leave it unranked until then. One capsule provides 121 mg of elemental magnesium. Read the 22% test reports.

How we ranked

One metric: the price of a single pack on the brand's own site, divided by the elemental magnesium in that pack from its supplement facts panel, per 100 mg. We do not use star ratings, review counts or paid placement. A product is ranked only when its labelled magnesium fits the sources it declares on its label and product page: up to about 14.1% of the weight for glycinate alone, or a declared second source such as magnesium hydroxide, or a declared multi-form blend.

Disclosure: HealthyHey makes two of the products on this page: HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated, ranked third, and HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 22%, listed but not ranked. That is why the ranking rests on a price and a label figure you can check yourself. Our batch results are public: 14% test reports and 22% test reports.

Product notes, in ranked order

1. Tata 1mg Magnesium Glycinate. Declares 440 mg elemental magnesium per two-tablet serving from 2,000 mg magnesium bisglycinate buffered with magnesium hydroxide. Rated A+ by Unbox Health in January 2026, valid to January 2027. Its 120-tablet listing gives the pack size as 60 tablets in its specifications, so we used the 60-tablet pack.

2. HK Vitals 100% Magnesium Glycinate. Its supplement facts panel declares 220 mg elemental magnesium from 1,880 mg magnesium bisglycinate per two tablets (11.7%), with bisglycinate as the only magnesium source. Some older text on the page still says 440 mg; we used the panel. Not yet rated by Unbox Health in its current formula.

3. HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated. Two capsules give 121 mg of elemental magnesium from 864 mg of magnesium bisglycinate, with bisglycinate as the only magnesium source on the label. The raw material assayed at 14.01% magnesium at Eureka Analytical Services, an NABL-accredited lab (report TR-26-EKA1-090488-02, September 2026), against about 14.1% for pure bisglycinate. The assay measures total magnesium, not the share that is chelated. Avon Food Lab found all seven heavy metals within the limits printed on its report for batch ACS05500. Reports for two more batches are published: heavy metals for ACS055005 (September 2026) and microbiology for ACS0513C0 (issued 23 October 2026). Read the reports. Suggested use: 2 capsules daily with a meal.

4. TrueBasics Magnesium Glycinate Sleep-Ease Complex. Declares 300 mg elemental magnesium from 2,564 mg magnesium bisglycinate per two tablets (11.7%), with bisglycinate as the only magnesium source, plus 250 mg of Holixer tulsi extract. Not rated by Unbox Health.

5. Wellbeing Nutrition Slow Triple Magnesium Complex. Declares 220 mg elemental magnesium per two capsules from a blend of magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium threonate and Aquamin marine magnesium citrate. The 14.1% ceiling does not apply to a declared multi-form blend. Its Unbox Health A+ from August 2024 expired in August 2025.

Unbox Health, which buys products on the open market and tests them in NABL-accredited labs, has rated all 11 HealthyHey products it has tested A or A+; five of those ratings are current. HealthyHey requested the ratings; Unbox Health sourced and tested the products itself (checked 14 October 2026). Unbox Health ratings stay valid for 12 months.

A 440 mg serving exceeds the US adult upper intake level of 350 mg/day from supplements and medicines. That limit excludes food and is not a target dose. Do not change a product’s serving or use a high-dose supplement based on this comparison alone; seek appropriate advice. NIH reference.

Magnesium Glycinate vs Other Forms: Quick Comparison

Form Magnesium by weight Absorption Best For
Magnesium Bisglycinate Approximately 14.1% when pure and anhydrous Assess the actual formulation and study population Declared glycinate preference; no universal clinical ranking
Magnesium Citrate 16.2% Well absorbed and soluble; mildly laxative at higher doses Constipation, general use
Magnesium Malate 15.5% Well absorbed Energy, muscle fatigue
Magnesium Oxide Approximately 60.3% Absorption and digestive effects depend on formulation, dose and person Compact dosing and declared blends; digestive tolerance varies by person
Magnesium L-Threonate 8.3% Studied for crossing the blood-brain barrier Cognitive support

The widely quoted "magnesium oxide is only 4% absorbed" figure comes from a single 2001 urinary-excretion study that did not test glycinate at all, and the same authors concluded that inorganic salts can match organic ones depending on the preparation. Support it with caution.

What Dosage Should You Take?

ICMR-NIN (2020) sets the recommended dietary allowance at 370 mg of elemental magnesium daily for adult women and 440 mg for adult men, counting all sources including food. Most Indians fall short through diet alone.

Choose supplemental intake based on diet, other supplements, the product directions and individual advice. HealthyHey 14% declares 121 mg per two-capsule serving. The US adult upper limit is 350 mg/day from supplements and medicines, excluding food; it is not a target, and staying under it does not make a dose right for everyone.

Taking magnesium at night, with dinner or before bed, is preferred by many people because glycine itself has mild relaxing properties that may support sleep quality.

Signs you may benefit from magnesium supplementation:

  • Frequent muscle cramps or twitches
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Feeling fatigued despite adequate rest
  • High stress levels or anxious feelings
  • Diet low in green leafy vegetables, nuts, and seeds

Magnesium Safety: Interactions and Who Should Avoid It

Most healthy adults tolerate magnesium glycinate well at the labelled serving. These are the cases where it needs care.

Check with your doctor first if you

  • Have kidney disease (kidneys regulate magnesium excretion; supplementation can be dangerous)
  • Have heart block or arrhythmias
  • Take medications such as antibiotics, diuretics or PPIs that interact with magnesium
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Medicines to space apart from magnesium

  • Ciprofloxacin: its US prescribing label says to take ciprofloxacin 2 hours before or 6 hours after supplements that contain magnesium.
  • Doxycycline and other tetracycline antibiotics: the label says antacids containing magnesium reduce their absorption. Ask your pharmacist how far apart to take them.
  • Alendronic acid (for osteoporosis): the label says to take it at least 30 minutes before any other medicine, food or drink, and the NHS advises telling your doctor if you take supplements containing magnesium.
  • Levothyroxine (thyroid medicine): its label lists several minerals and antacids that can reduce its absorption, so ask your doctor or pharmacist how to time your supplements.

How much is too much

The NHS says taking more than 400 mg of magnesium a day from supplements for a short time can cause diarrhoea. The US adult upper limit for supplemental magnesium is 350 mg a day (see the dosage section above). HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% gives 121 mg per two-capsule serving.

Sources: US FDA prescribing information via DailyMed: ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, alendronate, levothyroxine. NHS: magnesium, alendronic acid with other medicines. Checked 14 October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best magnesium glycinate supplement in India?

It depends on what you need. On cost per 100 mg of elemental magnesium (prices checked 2 November 2026), Tata 1mg Magnesium Glycinate is lowest at ₹2.8, a bisglycinate buffered with magnesium hydroxide. Among labels with glycinate as the only magnesium source, HK Vitals 100% Magnesium Glycinate is ₹5.7, HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated ₹7.9 and TrueBasics ₹10.5. HealthyHey publishes batch test reports for its 14%; we did not find published reports for the HK Vitals or TrueBasics products on their sites (checked 2 November 2026).

Is magnesium glycinate safe to take every day?

Follow the product directions and individual advice. A general upper limit does not establish safety for everyone. Seek advice if you have kidney disease, take medicines, or fall within a group restricted by the product label.

What is the difference between magnesium glycinate and magnesium bisglycinate?

The names are commonly used for a magnesium–glycine ingredient. Check the exact ingredient specification and complete label. A label ratio above the pure-form ceiling calls for clarification, while a compatible ratio does not independently prove chemical identity.

Is a buffered or blended magnesium glycinate a bad product?

No. Buffered magnesium glycinate is an established ingredient grade sold by major suppliers, in which the chelate is combined with additional magnesium, usually magnesium oxide, to fit more magnesium into each capsule. Magnesium oxide is a permitted magnesium source in India, the EU, Canada and the United States. What matters is that the label declares every magnesium source, so you know what you are buying.

Can magnesium glycinate help with sleep?

A 2025 trial in 155 adults reporting poor sleep tested 250 mg elemental magnesium daily as bisglycinate for four weeks and found a small average improvement in insomnia scores. The dietary subgroup finding was exploratory. It was not a trial of HealthyHey’s 121 mg serving. Read the trial.

What is NABL lab testing and why does it matter?

Read the named laboratory, report number, sample identifier, date, accreditation scope and individual tests. A report supports only the parameters and sample it covers. Total magnesium does not identify the magnesium form; a contaminant panel does not establish potency or the absence of every contaminant.

Is HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate vegetarian/vegan?

HealthyHey uses vegetarian HPMC capsule shells. The current 14% label also lists bulking, anticaking, binding and preservative ingredients; it should not be described as filler-free. Read the full ingredients.

Should I take magnesium glycinate with food?

Follow the actual product directions. HealthyHey 14% is labelled for two capsules daily with a meal or as suggested by a healthcare professional. Medicine-specific timing may require separate advice.

How to Choose

Decide first whether you want glycinate as the only magnesium source, then compare the cost per 100 mg and the published test reports.

If you want glycinate only, the labels here that fit pure bisglycinate are HK Vitals 100% Magnesium Glycinate (₹5.7 per 100 mg), HealthyHey Magnesium Glycinate 14% Fully Chelated (₹7.9, with batch test reports published) and TrueBasics (₹10.5, with tulsi extract).

If a declared blend is fine, Tata 1mg Magnesium Glycinate costs the least per milligram, at ₹2.8.

Compare on the amount you actually need, tolerability, the full ingredient list and relevant evidence. A larger dose is not automatically better, and a lower price per milligram does not establish clinical value.

Don't be swayed by inflated compound-weight numbers. Compare elemental magnesium, check that the elemental figure is arithmetically possible for the sources declared, and ask for lab reports. Your health deserves that level of scrutiny.
