  • Calcium, vitamin D, or combined supplementation to prevent fractures and falls: systematic review and meta-analysis

    Finding: Massé et al., BMJ (2026): 69 randomized trials with 153,902 adults found little to no clinically meaningful fracture or fall-prevention benefit from calcium, vitamin D or their combination.

    Limitations: Most participants lived in the community and were not at high fracture/fall risk. Evidence in high-risk or residential-care populations was limited; osteoporosis drug-treatment trials were excluded. Doses and durations varied.
